Use Spotlight to search inside Nuke files
I’m working on a long post about baking and making good mobile 3D game graphics but I just thought I’d post a good tip for finding Nuke files in OS X. If you know you have a Nuke script file that has some filters in it but can’t remember what it’s called, do a Spotlight search and just use the filter names. Spotlight will search inside of the files since they are ASCII text...

Using 3D in Photoshop for scene mockups
Here’s a quick example of why Photoshop’s 3D features are great for design mockups. Doing this kind of thing in a 3D app would be a lot more time consuming and you can add motion blur as a reminder to do it in post.

In celebration of V-Ray for Maya 1.50 SP1, a gift...
I recently switched to V-Ray from mental ray for Maya after years of coping with the incessant bugs and awful support. The just-released update to V-Ray for Maya reminds us what an update for a renderer should look like – full of fixes and new features, and at no extra cost.

The first question you might be asking as a Mac user is “Why would I want to use a text command when I have an interface to rendering?” The answer is pretty...
Why you would read this blog
I give a lot of tips to 2D designers, 3D artists and Mac users, as you can tell by my Ars Technica articles and reviews, my rather embarrassing post count on the Ars Technica forum, the CGSociety forum, and my two web sites (no relation to My Two Dads). This blog was started as a place where I can post tutorials covering this cross-section of topics (3D, 2D, photo, art, Mac OS X stuff, etc.)
So...
